SOPA/PIPA and NarniaMUCK

Dear MUCKers,

We at NarniaMUCK don't want this to be a place to push political agendas. For this reason, and because of our numerous non-American players, we will not be blacking out in protest of SOPA/PIPA. Instead, we've chosen this less extreme measure to inform you that SOPA/PIPA has the possibility of affecting our game if it passes. To protest or for more information, go to: https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/ or http://americancensorship.org/

MUCKing Tip of the Day: Adverbs

Writers will generally tell you to avoid adverbs (this is part of the 'show, don't tell' idea). In RP, they can be useful in order to quickly and clearly portray emotions so that others can respond, but try to save them for when they are really necessary. Some adverbs which get particularly overused include: rarely, often, swiftly, rather, quite, merely, slightly, suddenly, exactly, immediately, likely, and truly.

The Southern March

As some of you will have noticed, the region in southeast Archenland that contains the town of Coghill is called the Southern March. So far, Coghill has been the only place of interest in the Southern March, but in view of the upcoming Winter Hunt being hosted by Shar and Elriya, we've added the more rural area for which the region was named--that is, the woods and hill-country inhabited by the Hermit of the Southern March in The Horse and His Boy.

This is the territory that Bree, Hwin, and their humans travel through between when they cross the Winding Arrow (leaving the rocky valley) and when Shasta finds King Lune's hunting party in what we know as Eastern Archenland. It contains some places that will probably look familiar to fans of the books, so if you've got a Coghill alt (or want one), be sure to check it out beginning this Saturday, January 7th!

MUCKing Tip of the Day: Displaying Emotion

Try to fill your poses with information that would be readily apparent to others: things like facial expressions, body language, and tones of voice rather than thoughts, feelings, and motivations. It helps if you save the words 'clearly' and 'obviously' for things that truly are obvious to everyone present, such as "Lydia is obviously limping" instead of "Lydia looks furious, but clearly she loves you anyway". If your feelings really would be obvious, then show us how instead of just telling us that they are. In addition to being more realistic, this allows other players to choose whether or not their characters understand yours instead of deciding for them.

Father Christmas and Christmas Events

Father Christmas is back in Narnia! He'll be wandering about Narnia, Archenland, and even Ettinsmoor from now until January 15th. Find him and get a special prize!

In other Narnian news, please join us for our Christmas feast to be held on December 18th. There will be a breakfast feast opened by Edmund in the "morning" and an evening feast and dance that night-- noon PST and 7pm PST respectively (subject to change). In between Tumnus' house will be open for storytelling and tea, food will be available, and there will be room for dancing, chatting, and friendly spars. All sorts of interesting characters (including celebrated canon characters, generally ostracized characters, highly militant characters, and perpetually inebriated characters) have set out to enjoy the festivities, so this promises to be an event you won't want to miss!

November 2011 Featured RP: Friends Lost, Friends Gained

Lewis once wrote that friendship first arises when two people say "What? You too? I thought I was the only one!" Petraverd and Glyn, throughout their talks since the melee, have begun to see the truth in that, and Petraverd's openness begins to lead to the same on Glyn's part... Read more »
